Joint statement: Immediately end legal threats against ADHOC staffer Soeng Senkaruna
On 14 February 2024, 55 organizations, associations, unions, and communities issued a joint statement for withdrawing the complaint against Mr. Soeng Senkaruna, a senior staffer at the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC). The statement was made after the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) filed a complaint against Mr. Soeng Senkaruna to the Phnom Penh Capital Court, sentencing and demanding about US$500,000 in compensation. The party claimed that Mr. Soeng Senkaruna damaged the party’s reputation due to his remarks. The joint statement also called for an end to all forms of harassment against human rights defenders and activists in the country.
